Here are the things I love about this game and why it might even top most of the from soft games I have played in my opinion:Ĭombat: The skill trees for each individual weapon and the ability for different combat against different enemies in different stances is so satisfying. As a souls veteran(go ahead shit on me for saying that lol). And man this game is the breath of fresh air I needed. Decided to give Nioh 2 a rip because I bought both for PS5. Beat elden ring a multitude of times and wanted something fresh and new.
Really enjoyed it as it was remastered for the PS5. So I played about 50% of Nioh 1 while I was waiting for Elden Ring. That's all, just needed to get my excitement out. But Nioh 2 just blew it out of the water - I can't imagine having the patience of going through the first 2 regions in Nioh 1 again. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to Nioh 1, and that's sad because I bought that game when I was in a rough spot in my life so I have nice memories of playing it and wanted to replay it a lot more. Team Ninja really said "let's try making another one, but refine it, correct some mistakes we made and polish it a lot more now that we have some actual experience with this kind of game", and then they fucking nailed it - all of that while reusing a lot of the good aspects of Nioh 1 (like literally copy-pasting the enemies for example, which fits because they're Japanese folklore, and upgrading them even further). The new enemies boosting variety, the revamped old enemies, better main mission level design, the new weapons, yokai abilites, burst counters, better mechanics explanations, the slick bosses (Yatsu-No-Kami is the worst one for me atm, and it's not even a bad fight - it has a lot of HP, but it actually has a moveset and mechanics, unlike Umi-Bozu for example who had 2 attacks, a 1-shot beam attack and a hole you can fall into while attacking the boss for 20 minutes lol). I just finished the 2nd region - in Nioh 1 I would have fought the Centipede and Umi-Bozu in this region, that's how. Now it feels so weird seeing a game so similar, with the same positives, but just rebalanced and fixed with new additions and less negatives. I bought the game about 2 days ago after dumping about 160 hours into Nioh 1 in january of this year and absolutely loving it, even considering its many flaws.
